Jaipur the symphony in pink has an intriguing history. It was planned by a Bengali architect named Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. The city was built in the 18th century by Raja Jai Singh after whom the city is named. It is laid in a grid system. It has straight avenues, streets, roads and lanes arranged in 9 rectangular city sectors. It was the only planned city in existence at that time and that is why the city is walled.

Being situated in the desert area Jaipur obviously has a warm climate. Summers are extremely hot and winters are somewhat cooler. But the nights can be rather frigid. It has very short spells of rain during monsoons. The fog during winters should not be taken lightly. But the unpredictable climate is all part of the package and it is enjoyable.
